Avoid Right Aisle Seats in the First Two Rows

    Apr 2013

    Section 544, Row 2, Seats 1-2

These seats are in the first section of the cheaper upper deck seats. They have a great view of the out-of-town scoreboard and the main scoreboard in CF. However, there are seats in this section and in other sections in the 500 level that should absolutely be avoided. The aisle seats nearest home plate (Seat 1 on the 3B side) in the first two rows have a view that is almost completely obstructed by the railing. This makes it near-impossible to see the entire batter-pitcher exchange without looking at some railings. In turn, this made it difficult to see hard-hit ground balls. All the seats in Row 3 and above are fine -- as are seats in the middle of the row -- but if you're choosing aisle seats, choose the ones away from home plate. Despite the poor view, being on the aisle one step away from the tunnel makes getting to the concourse an absolute breeze. The restrooms were about three sections away -- so not perfect -- but there are an abundance of permanent and moveable concession stands, which is rare for an upper deck. Even in April on a 40 degree day, I walked away with pretty severe sunburn for a 1:00 game. There's no chance at shade for an afternoon game in these seats so bring the sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, nine umbrellas and a tarp. Vendors hawking beer, soft drinks, candy, hot dogs and popcorn were aplenty -- so even if you're seated in a higher row, the concessions will come to you.

    • Upper Box Seats

      -

Upper Infield Views: Upper Box seats sit behind home plate and along the infield on the 500 Level.    Best Rows Near the Front: The first few rows offer the most comfortable viewing height and shortest walks.    Great Fireworks Views: Sections 522-524 provide some of the best fireworks views in the stadium.    Roof Coverage Available: Upper rows sit under the stadium roof and provide protection from sun and rain.    Steep Seating Area: These seats are located high above the field with steeper stairs than other levels.    Who Should Sit Here  Upper Box seats are a good option for fans looking for affordable seats behind home plate or along the infield while still enjoying a straight-on perspective of the game. These sections can be a good fit for fans who prefer a higher vantage point to see the entire field develop, but they may not be ideal for those who dislike steep stairways or long climbs.  Upper Box Location & Details  Upper Box seating includes sections 522-544 on the White Sox seating chart and is located on the 500 Level behind home plate and along the infield.  The first few rows of some sections are occasionally labeled Premium Upper Boxes, though these seats do not include any additional amenities or special privileges compared to the rest of the section.  Because of the stadium’s vertical design, the upper level sits high above the field with steep walkways. Recent stadium improvements have helped improve accessibility, but fans sitting in higher rows should expect a noticeable climb.  Upper Box Views  Upper Box seats provide a high, straight-on perspective of the field, particularly in sections near home plate.  However, because of the stadium’s design, seats higher in the section can feel quite elevated. Fans sitting above roughly row 8 may find themselves wishing they chose seats closer to the front due to the height and steep steps.  One major advantage of this location comes on fireworks nights. Sections 522-524 provide some of the best views in the stadium, offering a direct head-on view of the fireworks display without needing to turn around or strain to see the show.  Recommended Seats  For the best overall experience in the Upper Box sections, try to sit in the first five rows. These seats provide the most comfortable viewing height and require significantly fewer stairs.  Fans looking for shade or weather protection should consider sitting in higher rows under the stadium roof, while those attending afternoon games may prefer the first-base side, where seats will typically fall into shade earlier.

    • Upper Reserved

      -

Cheapest Seats at Rate Field: Upper Reserved sections typically offer the lowest ticket prices for White Sox games.    Steep Upper Deck: Upper Reserved seats are located high on the 500 Level and require climbing some of the steepest stairs in the ballpark.    Hidden Value Near the Infield: Sections 516-520 and 544-548 offer similar views to Upper Box seats at a lower price.    Fireworks Hotspot: Sections 516-520 provide excellent views of the postgame fireworks shows.    Some Covered Rows: The last rows of the upper deck sit under an overhang for shade and weather protection.    Who Should Sit Here  Upper Reserved seats are ideal for budget-conscious fans looking to attend a White Sox game for the lowest possible price. These sections are also appealing for fans who enjoy a high vantage point of the entire field and don't mind sitting far from the action.  Upper Reserved Location & Details  Upper Reserved seating includes the outermost sections of the 500 Level, including 506-520 and 544-558.  These sections are positioned farther down the lines and toward the corners of the upper deck, which places them farther from home plate than the nearby Upper Box sections (522-542) located behind the infield.  Because of this location, Upper Reserved tickets are typically among the cheapest in the ballpark, while still providing a full view of the field from the upper deck.  Sections 516-520 and 544-548 sit closest to the infield edges of the Upper Reserved area, giving them slightly better sightlines toward home plate compared to the far corner sections.  All Upper Reserved sections sit farther from home plate than the nearby Upper Box sections, which is why they are typically priced lower.  Upper Reserved Views  Views from Upper Reserved seats are very high above the field, particularly in sections 506-508 and 556-558, which sit in the far corners of the upper deck.  While these seats are extremely distant, the angle toward home plate is still fairly good for upper-level seating, allowing fans to follow the overall action on the field.  Sections 516-520 stand out as one of the better areas in this zone. In addition to providing a slightly better viewing angle toward the field, these sections also offer excellent views of the fireworks shows after select games.  Steep Stairs  Fans sitting in the Upper Reserved sections should be prepared for a noticeable climb. Like most upper decks built in this era, the seating bowl is fairly steep, and rows extend high above the concourse. While the angle helps maintain decent sightlines to the field, it also means fans in higher rows will need to navigate a significant number of stairs to reach their seats. These sections may not be the best choice for fans who prefer minimal walking or easier access to the concourse.  Recommended Seats  Fans attending afternoon games should consider sitting on the first base side, where shade typically reaches these sections earlier.  Those looking for the best value views in Upper Reserved should target sections 516-520 or 544-548, which offer a similar viewing perspective to nearby Upper Box seats but often come at a fraction of the cost.
