Finding Shaded Seats at T-Mobile Park
Because of all the rain the in the Seattle area, T-Mobile Park was built with a retractable roof. When the forecast calls for rain, fans can rest assured that they won't have to worry about getting wet. But what about when it's hot outside - do the Mariners close the roof when the summer heat rolls in? According to the Seattle Times, the stadium is actually hotter when the roof is closed! So, no, the roof does not close on hot summer days.
If you're attending a Mariners game on a hot day and want to stay cool - or you simply want to avoid the sun - there are plenty of shaded areas at T-Mobile Park. We'll discuss some of the best options.
Shaded Seats on the Lower Level
By 4:00 p.m., most seats on the 100 level will be shaded. But that won't do you any good at first pitch. If you absolutely must stay out of the sun, aim for rows 35 and higher which are tucked beneath the overhang. Otherwise, aim for seats closer to row 30 where the overhang won't obstruct your view and you'll still be shaded for the majority of the game.
Club Level Shaded Seats
As with the lower level, the best shaded seats on the Club Level are beneath the overhang. Rows 10 and above are your best options for shade that will last most of the game. These seats will also be near the Terrace Club Lounge - and indoor area for concessions, restrooms and general relaxation.
View Level / 300 Level
If you're looking for a cheap seat in the shade, View Level seats behind home plate fit the bill. You'll get a good bird's eye view of the game and will be among the first to be shaded.
If home plate seats are too expensive, choose a high row in an adjacent section. Just don't pick a seat too far in the corner where the sun can sneak in and views of the game are subpar.
Assume the Outfield Will Be Sunny
At noon the best place for shade is in sections 306-310. However, by 3:00 p.m. this is the last place you want to be. The sun will set behind home plate and shine directly into these seats. While outfield seats may be shaded at first pitch, almost all of these seats are in direct sunlight by the mid-afternoon.
