RYS Expert Reviews

Behind the Stage

(2026 Review) - Behind-Stage Seating: Sold only for select shows at Madison Square Garden, with a view to the stage but likely obstructions.  Expect the Performer's Back: The performance faces away, so you'll spend most of the show looking at the artist's back.  Screens May Be Out of View: Content or visuals projected on screens may not be visible, and parts of the stage can be blocked by lighting or equipment.  View Varies by Level: The 100 level, 200 level, and Madison Club offer the clearest looks; the 400 level is the least desirable.  Who Should Sit Here  These seats at Madison Square Garden suit budget-minded fans who mainly want to be in the building for the energy of a sold-out show and don't mind a compromised view. If seeing every screen visual and facing the performer head-on matters to you, look elsewhere.  Behind the Stage Location & Details  Behind-stage seats sit directly behind the performance and are only released for some shows. They span multiple levels, and the experience differs greatly depending on where you land:  100 & 200 Levels and Madison Club: The clearest views of the stage from behind.  300 Level Balcony: Clearer views, but steep down to the stage due to the height — fans with a fear of heights may want to avoid it.  400 Level: The window to the stage is greatly restricted by the height of the level and the overhang above, making it the least desirable spot behind the stage.  Views from Behind the Stage  All behind-stage seats face the back of the performance, so the majority of the show is viewed from behind the artist. Portions of the stage may be obstructed by lighting or equipment, and projected screen content may fall out of view. Clarity improves in the lower levels and Madison Club, while the 300 level trades a clearer sightline for a steep angle and the 400 level suffers most from overhang.

Blue Seats

(2026 Review) - The Blue Seats: The 400 level at Madison Square Garden, MSG's highest tier and a longtime home for the most diehard fans.  Cheapest Tickets: Almost always among the most affordable seats in the building.  Watch the Row: Each section has fewer than 7 rows — avoid rows 5–7 where possible due to obstructions.  View Trade-Off: Great value, but sightlines are the compromise, especially for basketball behind the basket.  Who Should Sit Here  The Blue Seats at Madison Square Garden are for the budget-minded, live-and-die-with-your-team fan who cares more about being in the building than about a picture-perfect view. If price is your priority and atmosphere is the draw, this is your section.  Blue Seats Location & Details  These are the 400 level seats — the top tier at Madison Square Garden. Each section holds fewer than 7 rows. If you can, steer clear of rows 5–7, where obstructions become an issue.  Views from the Blue Seats  The view depends heavily on the event. For Rangers games, these seats sit on the side of the ice the team attacks twice, which is a nice perk — though plays on the far side of the ice are much harder to follow. For basketball, the seats are located behind the basket, so most fans here are choosing them for the price rather than the sightlines.  Good to Know  If a clear view matters more than saving money, aim for the lower rows of a section and avoid rows 5–7 entirely to sidestep the obstructions.

Seating Notes

  • The Rangers shoot twice towards this end of the ice

For Concerts, Section 415 May Have a Limited View

415 is behind the stage or to the side of the stage for most concerts. This may restrict or limit your view of the performance.

MAJOR OBSTRUCTION!!!! — Went to my first PHISH New Year's Eve show and was DEVASTATED to see that my view was completely obstructed. The ticket was not marked obstructed. The whole idea of going to MSG on New Year's Eve is to be able to see all the festivities from your seat. This was not the case in Section 415, Row 7, Seat 15. Please heed my advice. DO NOT PURCHASE A SEAT IN THIS ROW!
