Avoid Right Aisle Seats in the First Two Rows

    Apr 2013

    Section 544, Row 2, Seats 1-2

These seats are in the first section of the cheaper upper deck seats. They have a great view of the out-of-town scoreboard and the main scoreboard in CF. However, there are seats in this section and in other sections in the 500 level that should absolutely be avoided. The aisle seats nearest home plate (Seat 1 on the 3B side) in the first two rows have a view that is almost completely obstructed by the railing. This makes it near-impossible to see the entire batter-pitcher exchange without looking at some railings. In turn, this made it difficult to see hard-hit ground balls. All the seats in Row 3 and above are fine -- as are seats in the middle of the row -- but if you're choosing aisle seats, choose the ones away from home plate. Despite the poor view, being on the aisle one step away from the tunnel makes getting to the concourse an absolute breeze. The restrooms were about three sections away -- so not perfect -- but there are an abundance of permanent and moveable concession stands, which is rare for an upper deck. Even in April on a 40 degree day, I walked away with pretty severe sunburn for a 1:00 game. There's no chance at shade for an afternoon game in these seats so bring the sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, nine umbrellas and a tarp. Vendors hawking beer, soft drinks, candy, hot dogs and popcorn were aplenty -- so even if you're seated in a higher row, the concessions will come to you.

    • Upper Box Seats

      -

Sections 520-544 make up the Upper Boxes at Guaranteed Rate Field. These seats offer elevated views of the field from behind home plate and near the infield. The 500 level seats have come under criticism for steep angles and nose-bleed heights. The stadium has undergone improvements to alleviate some of these issues, but seats above row 8 will have you wishing you spent a couple extra dollars and didn't have to walk up so many stairs. Never-the-less, seats in sections 522-524 are among the best in the ballpark on firework nights. These seats have a head-on view of the fireworks and you won't have to strain your neck to see them. The first few rows in the Upper Level are sometimes called Premium Upper Boxes, though they have no special benefits or privileges. Recommendations  Choose seats in the first five rows for the best views and shortest walks Sit in the upper rows to be under the stadium roof Sections on the first-base side will be shaded first

    • Upper Reserved

      -

The cheapest tickets for a White Sox game are found in sections known as Upper Reserved. When the White Sox are good, this is the best spot to find a good deal. When they're not-so-good, these seats are mostly empty. The far reaches of the upper deck (506-508, 556-558) are incredibly far away from the field, although the angle towards home plate are quite good for upper level seating. Sections 516-520 and 544-548 are similar to nearby Upper Box Seats and can be had for a fraction of the cost. 516-520 also offer a phenomenal view of the fireworks.  Though the last ten rows of the upper deck are under an overhang, much of the LF line will still be exposed to the sun during afternoon games. To avoid melting on a hot summer day, choose a seat on the first base side where shade begins forming first.
